Deep Creek flows through the east end of Central Oregon’s Ochoco Mountains, a tributary of the more famous Crooked River. It’s a wild little gem, home to the native redband trout. I originally painted this en plein air, standing in the middle of the creek, and later finished the painting in the studio. I love the sense of fading light in the deep shadows of the foreground, and the glow of spring growth where the sun strikes the lush bank. Visiting small creeks like this one, closed in with brush and forest, feels like discovering a secret. I wanted the painting to express that intimacy.
Deep Creek is painted on hand-prepared 1/8” wood panel. The painting arrives ready to hang, showcased in a gallery-quality, artist-selected frame.
